Every half season, usually in February and September, we host an Open House that you can attend for free - no skating experience required - to learn the basics of quad skating and roller derby. After that, a new Rookie Program kicks-off with our new skaters.
Did you just miss an Open House? Contact us and we'll see if we can slot you in the current Rookie Program.
The Rookie Program is open to everyone who is at least 16 years old, and you can also join if you'd like to learn how to be a referee. If being on roller skates isn't your thing, but you'd like to get involved, you can always join us as an NSO (non-skating official) or as a volunteer by also sending us an email or filling the contact form.
For any questions about the Rookie Program, send an email to rookies@amsterdamrollerderby.nl
During the program our trainers will teach you, from scratch, the basics of roller derby: how to roll, how to stop, how to safely fall and the rules of the game.
Before every new season you get a chance to graduate to our team trainings. You can take your time learning, there's no set maximum time to still be a Rookie.
We have some skates and equipment that we lend on our Open House events so that you can get a feel for them before getting your own. And when it's time to buy your own gear, our veteran players are always there to help you figure out what's best suited for you.
We go into more detail at the Open House events, but if you have questions please feel free to contact us.
